Still Life III hung

As promised, here's how the finished works look, in their old white frames, hanging in our kitchen. I'm pleased that Julie's pleased that we found a way to use those frames from her mom's collection of older items.

Still Life III

These had an unusual inception: Julie had four, 9X12 white-painted wood frames from her mom's house. We've had them for years, but I dug them out recently. She suggested I do a series of small paintings for the frames (you see, usually frames are not the inspiration for a painting). Then Kathryn suggested using old items to match the old frames, and these are what I grabbed. The sunlight was great and I made some random pairings, based on textures, colors, and shapes. You may notice there are only three - the fourth is coming, and I'll take a picture of the set in their frames. Comments are always welcome!

Blue Chair

At the risk of putting too many home images on here, I thought I'd put this one in. Again, I have to give my wife credit for pointing out the sun light pouring into our family room. The chair is one from Julie's mom's home that we painted. In case it's not obvious, I love to paint objects, scenes and places I love. Not a very unique approach, but so what?

Dad's Desk

Julie and I were sitting on our couch one morning before work (our prayer spot) and saw the sunlight slanting in on the opposite wall. That's my dad's secretary desk, the one piece of furniture I really wanted after he died and my mom moved. Julie did the lovely wheat arrangements in her little vases. So, for a lot of reasons: God, Dad, and Julie - I needed to paint this moment.

Julie's Autumn Box

Each fall, Julie changes the decor in our home to match the season. She found this old box (drawer?) and fills it with squashes and gourds of various colors and shapes. Her love for Creation beauty inspires me.

Carolyn's Pooh

This painting is a bit different for a number of reasons - it's an acrylic for one thing. I painted this when our eldest, Carolyn was a wee lass. My mom made the Pooh Bear for her (as she did for all our kids). But the weird thing about this composition is that it was actually painted over another painting that had the car in it. I still liked the car and didn't want to wipe it out, so I incorporated it into things that Carolyn liked. (She likes classic cars, too!) Here's to you, sweetie!

Morning Revelations

As she did with the snowball flowers below, my wife Julie called my attention to some lovely sunlight hitting a flower arrangement in our family room one morning. She rarely insists that I paint something, but she sweetly suggested I take a picture (that's often a clue that she wants it painted). Like many painters, I love what God does with light on everyday objects.
