Newport Bay Harbor II

It was time for another boat painting, in watercolor - the power of pastels was sucking me in too deep! This was taken during the same delightful Class of 2013 trip to Oregon and at the same place as a previous painting, hence the 'II' thing. Just love harbors!

Moon & Bales

On my daily walk at lunchtime, I pass by this field. As the summer waned, these wonderful bales appeared, mysteriously made. I liked the bales, I liked the moon - similar shapes and all... so, time for a pastel!

Harvest Sunset

Thanks to Kyle Flack, a Logos grad and a lad from a farming family, for the original photo of this lovely sunset and combine. Part of the reason I love the Palouse so much is because of the glory of the skies and the glory of the wheat grown here. Thanks to the God of the harvest!

The 700 At Billings, MT

A good friend gave me a train calendar with the original photo of this train in it, encouraging me to try my hand at painting trains, as a change from ships. He loved trains. So this is dedicated to my friend Joel, now with the Father.

Multnomah Falls

Another favorite spot in Oregon - this time in the Columbia River Gorge. You can hike up to the bridge and feel really cool, or you can hike to the top, take an hour, nearly die, but then look ALL the way down! (The falls are in two parts, in case you haven't been there.)

Barn In Shadow

Thanks to Marc Shaw for passing along the photo that was the basis for this pastel. There was something Van Gogh-like about the light and color, so I tried to push those a bit more. Yet another view of the varied Palouse.

Ships At Newport Harbor

Saw this quiet scene while on a wonderful trip with our 2013 Logos grads to the Oregon coast. Newport was a great town, had tasty seafood (of course), and a busy harbor. But these boats were just waiting...

Haystack Rock at Sunset

Question: Can you have too many pictures of a place you love? So, another view of Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach. This time as the sun sets...(in pastels). Go there!

Jonah's Barns

Hannah Grieser took a photo of these barns that her family passed repeatedly on their way to and from Spokane for her son, Jonah's, treatments for cancer. I loved the shot, the barns and most of all the devotion and faith of their family. Jonah's back at school and this is me rejoicing with them! Welcome back, Jonah!

Summer Morning

A bit different approach to tackle a photograph taken of the Palouse. I did it in pastels, but on a rather large scale, 24 X 36. No artistic reason - Julie wanted a large painting to put above the fireplace in the summer!

Evening Clouds Over the Mountains

When you live in Moscow, Idaho, you either come to love every variation of the look of the mountains or you take them for granted. Being married to a girl who has loved them all her life, it was inevitable I would come to love their ever-changing looks, too. Much like the ocean, they are never look the same day to day. So...one more view, in late summer, with pastels.

Grauke's Teepee

Our good friends, John and Donna Grauke, won the bid on a commissioned piece from me at last year's Friends of Logos auction. The subject was up to the winner and they chose their teepee in the winter. It was a delight to do a place that they take so much joy in using with the kids and grandkids!

Vault & Light In Bath Abbey

The few cathedrals and abbeys we saw in England were all breath-taking. No one builds like this anymore - especially for the worship of God. Bath Abbey was one of our favorite sites (as well as one which allowed photography), so I thought a painting of it was in order.
