Though a bit late perhaps, but a last-of-autumn picture in pastels seemed appropriate. It's based on a photo that I believe my friend David Johnson took. I think it communicates our never-dull sunsets and earthy landscapes on the Palouse.

Central Park Lake
My daughter Kajsa lives in New York, not far from Central Park. She took a photo of this lake on an overcast day. I love the muted colors and the fact that it doesn't look like downtown NYC! So a rather quick, impressionistic watercolor seemed to be in order.

Boathouse At Sunset
Decided to do a fairly large (20 X 20) pastel of a beautiful evening shot taken of Lake Coeur d' Alene (80 miles north of Moscow) by the talented photographer Hannah Grieser. Much as I love the Oregon coast, Idaho has some great water, too!

Sensing's Farm
Carson and Wendy Sensing moved here recently from Tennessee and they bought a farm in the heart of the Palouse. She took a photo of their place this summer and said she felt like they now lived in a painting. So, I thought they should.

Blue Tractor Sunset
This painting is based on a local photo by our neighbor and a Logos alum, David Johnson. It grabbed me by the way it glorified the great farming equipment we see on almost a daily basis.

Boys of Harvest
A pastel based on a photo by Mackenzie Miller (two of her boys), I think this view says so much about the joy we all share in a Palouse harvest time! Not to mention the admiration of boys (of any age) for great machines.

Dungeness Lighthouse
A quick watercolor of the lighthouse on Washington's coast that my big sister Jill helped 'keep' for a week. Definitely want to get in on that deal!

Lemon & Peonies
So a leap back into acrylics - Hannah's photo seemed to call for that medium. Love those big peonies!

Sweet Smelling Peony
Taking a bit of a stretch on this one, but when I saw Kendra Lubiens' (Logos '92) photo of her adopted little girl smelling peonies, I wanted to go for it. It's been a long time since I've done people, but she was compelling!

The 700 Climbing the Grade
Been meaning to do one more train painting - this one not only from Joel's calendar, but actually based on one of his own photos. Joel had a good eye for the right moment, as well as loving these huge machines!

Winter Sunset
This is the 'other shoe' being dropped; the second pastel from source photos by Sarah Mortimore, taken from their home last winter. If the colors seem a bit intense, that's just the way God paints them out here in the Palouse!

The Taranak
Call it 'comfort art' - after my mom's passing, it seemed very assuring to do a watercolor of a ship from my grandfather's collection of prints. In this case a ship called the Taranak. Open air, fresh breeze and the sea - my mom would approve.

Sun On Snow
When I first saw this image in Sarah Mortimore's photo, I was struck by its mood. It's calm, yet the light is rather dramatic. I've painted (pastel) this as my mother crosses over to her real home, and I have somewhat the same feeling - calm in the midst of glorious light and shadows. "This is the morning!"

Moscow Alley 5
Yes, another alley in Moscow. What can I say? They fascinate me with their variety of colors, shapes, shadows and textures. And they don't get much press, so I'm not getting much competition for doing them! Thanks for looking!

Morning On Moscow Mountain
A close-up of one of our favorite views- Moscow Mountain! Our friends, the Bill Churchs, get to wake up to this view every day. Thanks for the photo inspiration, Bill! A pastel seemed to be just the right medium to get the feel. God's blessings are new each morning!

Morning Fog
As we were leaving Spokane last month on a very cold, foggy morning, we came across this scene. Normally I prefer a strong light for watercolors, but, hey, why not take a walk on the wild side? (Thanks again to the Ed Schlect fam for putting us up!)
